In the 2026 Webometrics Global University Ranking, UNILIA has maintained its position as Malawi’s top private university, a status it has held since 2020. Nationally, the university has moved from position 8 in 2025 to position 5 in 2026. At the continental level, UNILIA has risen from position 690 to 532, and globally from 14,077 to 12,847, out of over 30,000 universities ranked.

The Lilongwe campus of the University of Livingstonia, which is still under construction, suffered a recent setback as two classroom block roofs were blown off. UNILIA plans to plant 1000 trees on the Lilongwe campus to try to reduce the wind threat to buildings as climate change makes storms stronger.

On March 24, 2026 we learned of the death of the University of Livingstonia's Vice Chancellor and Associate Professor, the Rev. Dr. Timothy Nyasulu. Timothy was a champion for the University and for education. Approximately four months after donating 56 laptops, the University of Livingstonia Foundation has also gifted the University of Livingstonia (Unilia) with additional 80 laptops. The laptops have been distributed to all Unilia campuses. The Unilia Foundation, a United States of America-based Charity dedicated to assisting the University of Livingstonia (Unilia), has donated a total of 56 laptops to Unilia campuses of Ekwendeni, Kaning'ina and Laws.
