British Academy Workshop Award

The University of Livingstonia is among the 29 recipients of the prestigious British Academy International Writing Workshops Awards for the year 2025. Through the Writing Workshop Programme, the British Academy — which is the United Kingdom’s national academy for humanities and social sciences founded in 1902 — encourages and supports early career researchers (ECRs) in developing countries to publish in high impact journals and develop connections with academicians and journal editors nationally and internationally.

Unilia’s Director of Research, Mary Kumwanje, pictured above, has described the award as a game changer in Unilia’s research productivity.

The International Writing Workshops Programme is highly competitive. Therefore, this award represents an important international recognition of the research excellence, academic credibility and growing global partnerships of Unilia.

It further represents the confidence that respected global institutions place in the quality of scholarship emerging from our University.”

Kumwanje added that securing this award places Unilia in a strong position to expand its visibility, research productivity, staff development and international influence.

To qualify for the British Academy’s International Writing Workshops Award, an institution submits a proposal that is rigorously screened for awarding standards.
